Thank goodness—yes, thank goodness for the hats
we’ve been given for holding

our brains in, allowing us for the first time in forever
to think reasonably. Praise

to the deep felt brims shading our eyes, for now
when we look out, we look

dashing, and can see. Here and there, inconsistencies
of weather, clouds

funneling up around a sun endlessly
                              setting, a hillock, a sea, tin
blue of a birdless sky—
