An entire house hanging in the air, just above the ground, suspended by balloons. In each window, a postage stamp for a shade. Finally a breach in the row of houses, finally a view over the bay. On the horizon, out on the cape: a yellowed molar in winter sunlight.

Et helt hus holdt oppe af balloner, i hvert vindue et frimærke som rullegardin. Endelig et brud i rækken af huse, endelig et udsyn over bugten. I horisonten, ude på næsset: en gulnet kindtand i vintersol.

Carsten René Nielsen is the author of nine books of poetry, most recently House Inspections (2008) and Forty-one Animals (2005). His first collection, was awarded the Michael Strunge Prize for Poetry. These poems are from House Inspections, translated with David Keplinger and forthcoming from BOA Editions in 2011.

David Keplinger’s third book, The Prayers of Others, won the Colorado Book Award in 2007. With Nielsen, he has also translated World Cut Out with Crooked Scissors, which was published by New Issues Press in 2007. He directs the MFA program at American University.
