The Longest Sentence

Lean back against the fallen maples of the evening. And tell
someone something that can be taken
any number of ways. Talk is just that
when the shades are drawn, books have been stacked (and pushed over)
by children, and wild animals reason wildly with nature.

It is quite the regular occurrence for the beautiful to remain too long
in bed: when they wake, everyone else realizes
the extent of their jealousy. And logic leaps from the maples
as they fall, but that’s to be expected.
The fortune cookie said as much, and it was empty.

The longest sentence was written by Joyce, some say. Others say
the longest sentence could be composed at any given time,
given the proper motivation or a highly developed computer program.
But maybe, just maybe, the longest sentence is lived
through our calendars and endured by this entire universe.
